Support Request: Surf Area Rules Restricting Opening Adobe PDF Files Directly

Description

Hello,

I am attempting to open a file directly from both the assigned Downloads folder and a USB drive directly and I can't figure out how to change the surf area rules from restricting it.

I am however able to open the Adobe DC program first, then open the file through Adobe DC.

Here is the entry from the log:
2025-04-21 09:57:59 -0700 [SiteKiosk] According to the surf area rules the navigation to file://D:/ Barcodes Order UPC-12 Number List PDF Format.pdf was canceled.

Thank you.

Hello,

Thank you for your inquiry. Please note that SiteKiosk 9.8 is no longer supported. The Surfing Area rules does apply to files being opened to from the local drive if done in the browser. Here is the documentation for Surfing Area: https://www.sitekiosk.com/helpconsole/SiteKiosk%20Help/en-US/default.htm?surfing_area.htm

You can adjust the rules with wildcard masks (*) in your entries. Examples:
file://C:/Users/Public/Documents/SiteKiosk/*
file://D:/*

With these you would be able to allow these files to be viewed in the browser.

Alternative is to edit the File Actions for PDF files to either open the program associated with the file type or provide the direct executable to Abode Reader. file Actions can be found in Customize (Chrome Browser)>>Downloads.

If you are using File Manager to browse your D drive or Downloads folder and would like to launch your PDF file in Adobe, you can follow the instructions here and adjust how File Manager handles pdf files (be very careful editing Config.xml): https://www.sitekiosk.com/web/CustomerSupportCenter/ArticleDetails.aspx?ArticleID=598

Please email us at support-america(at)sitekosk.com with more information if solutions provided did not resolve the issue.

Best regards,
Andre.
